The Issue of Money
Our last session we talked about money:
What are your thoughts about the following “myths of money”
- making money is the more important than the meaning of money – believing that money will solve all your problems
- money is a neutral thing – it has not power or influence in our lives
- we take money too seriously or we do not take money seriously enough
Money can affect two areas of your life:
- getting what we do not have = greed
- clutching to what we do have = selfishness
Discussion/Interview Questions
- how do people try to replace love and relationships with “stuff”?
- does commcercialism shape my wants and needs?
- does money cause anxiety?
- how would my use of money change if I lived for my calling from God over my calling from commercialism?

topic: Money!
Prayer: the Decision Maker
MC Hammer: “We’ve got to pray just to make it today, that’s why we pray”
Billy Graham: “Heaven is full of answer to prayers for which no one ever bothered to ask”
Corrie ten Boom: “Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tire?”
Many Christians understand the necessity of praying over important decisions, but often they make decisions without praying. Why?
- we question whether this particular decisions requiers prayer
- we do not have time to pray because a decision is is needed immediately
- we do not know how to ask
- we don’t believe God willl give an answer.
What are some possible answers God grants? Yes, No, Wait.
Interview: if you can interview a non-church goer with the following questions:
- How do you make decisions and how do you know you make the right decisions?
- Do you believe it is necessary to pray for direction over any decisions you make?
Decisions, Decisions, Decisions
God does what’s best for God – not you.
What a tremendously harsh reality…especially in our narcissistic, self-loving society.
Think of all the times you’ve had to make decisions. Probably you’ve prayed about it and if you have a sense of “peace” about it we tend to think that God has given you the “green” light. Is that the only way we know God’s will for us? Can God ask us to do things that hurt us, that make us uncomfortable, that we may not have “peace” about? For Sure.
I’ve heard it said that the safest place to be is in the center of God’s will. Yes and no. Yes it is always good to be doing God’s will, but no, because God can make challenging demands on us that hurt, stretch and challenge us.
Interview: (40+ church member)
- How do you make tough decisions in life?
- Why do you choose that particular way?
- Have you ever made a decision to find out later that it was the wrong one?
- What did you do?
- Has God ever asked you to do something really difficult?
- What was it?
- Did you do it?
- Why or why not?
